I don’t often get to do interviews but I was recently approached by a new voice to the scene of mental health professionals who seek to help other mental health professionals in private practice.  The new voice was that of Dr. Melvin Varghese, Ph.D., a licensed psychologist in Philadelphia, PA .  I must say the first thing that impressed me about Dr. Varghese was that he was thorough.  From the way he asked to share my time, to explaining what he wanted to talk about, and the Facebook group of supporters rallying behind his initiative, it just seemed intentional, genuine, and polished to me.  I like intentional, genuine, and polished 🙂

So I said yes to the opportunity.  He had my attention and my time!  He explained that his podcast series was called “Selling The Couch”.  He has a desire to guide new and aspiring mental health providers on their private practice journey.  One of the ways he is doing this is by connecting with professionals in the field who are already doing this work and asking that they share some of their time to spread the knowledge to his new audience.  Now here is where some may wonder, “If he wants to guide therapists in private practice and you guide therapists in private practice, isn’t that a conflict?  My answer is “Of course not”.  The Counselor Entrepreneur is not trying to take over the world.  Although that’s actually exciting to think about…a world takeover… hmm… okay okay it’s not a realistic plan, I know.

Really, there is plenty of room for the right people!  I had a great time talking to Dr. Varghese and I hope the transparency in my interview inspires other mental health professionals.

Initially, my microphone caused my voice to do a tiny volume dip but it straightened out and all was well (GOTTA LOVE TECHNOLOGY).  You can tell by my laugh that it really was a relaxed conversation.  There were also serious moments where I really hope you are able to take away some lesson(s) that will help you in your own private practice journey.
