HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

New Year pic

Last year I asked everyone what their plan was for 2013. Well a new year is here!  Are you motivated to set a plan for the first quarter of this year?  Are you totally burned out from 2013?

Well this is a great time to think of a new start and getting back on track, if you strayed away from your desired goals.  Have you ever heard of the P.O.W.E.R model?  Well, this is a way to set and execute goals.  I first got familiar with this model while teaching Interpersonal Effectiveness to undergraduate students.  All counselor entrepreneurs need a plan and a way to execute it.  Some of us also need  ACCOUNTABILITY when it comes to creating a new plan in a new year.

Good thing that you are here.  This is a wonderful community where we can support, share, encourage, and keep each other accountable.

One of my goals was to finish this new website, get new videos, services, and resources. I was accountable to YOU and those colleagues that I told.  I knew once it left my mouth I needed to get working!

Let’s look at how the POWER model can help you with your goal setting.

P – Plan

Identify your goals and break them up into short term and long term goals.  It’s great to dream BIG but you have to slow down to recognize the smaller steps that lead up to your big dream.

O- Organize

Take account of the tools that you will need to accomplish those goals.  These tools will be emotional and tangible.  For example, an emotional tool you might need could be confidence.  A physical tool you might need could be a calendar or business cards.

W- Work

You have to get started!  There’s nothing to it but to do it.

E- Evaluate

At some point you need to stop and take a look at what you are doing and how much progress you are making.  This will require that you pull out your short term and long term goals to see if you are on track or if you fell off track a long time ago.  Proceed or change direction based on your evaluation of your progress.

R- Revise or Re-do

This is the final step once you have finished your plan.  Did you reach your goals? What made it a success or a fail?  Go back to revise, update, or re-write your plan if you are not satisfied.  If all worked out as planned, CONGRATULATIONS!  Now it’s time to re-do but with a new goal.

Now, write your plan out and

make it as detailed as possible.

If you want more than just a plan on paper, see the 2014 Vision Board vlog posting and join the movement to have a New Plan and NEW RESULTS in 2014!!
